July is NASCAR Month in Indy
As we have for the past 6 years, my family gathered in Joliet IL this past weekend to watch the NASCAR races at Chicagoland Speedway. The sea of tailgate camps and flags representing favorite drivers reminded me that soon we’d be welcoming this spectacle in our town. Indianapolis is synonymous with racing, but this month it’s not Helio, Danica, and Tony Kanaan. NASCAR invades the Brickyard in the summer with qualifying on Saturday July 23rd and the actual race on Sunday July 24th. A full schedule of the events can be found here. It is hard to believe that this will be the 16th running of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard™ at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The IMS is a special place for many and a huge economic engine in our city. Many central Indiana families’ livelihoods are tied to the handful of major racing events that occur at the speedway each year. The IMS is located in the Town of Speedway situated in the near west side of Indianapolis.
The Town of Speedway, though within Indianapolis, has its own town council, police and fire departments, and school system. It’s a family friendly neighborhood with a storied history and home to one of the crown jewels of our great state. As race weekend draws closer I’ll provide some insight into some of the activities that surround the event and what it is like to attend a race with 250,000 other fans!
